Springtime heralds the rebirth of floral beauty and the first flowers to bloom are notably crocus and hyacinth. March 7th is designated as World Hyacinth Day. The classic garden variety Dutch Hyacinth has mythologic ties to a handsome Greek prince, who’s spilt blood was said to have been the origin of the flower. It makes a lovely addition to bridal bouquets when combined simply with a bunch of white tulips or red roses. A larger bouquet can be fashioned using anemone, peonies, hydrangea and greenery. A small sprig makes a particularly nice boutonniere along with fern or silver dollar eucalyptus.
